If your ancestor died in the period from 1864 forward we can search for the record of their death in the Index of Deaths at the GRO in Dublin. Civil death records provide the following information in relation to the deceased:
1. Name, age, occupation and marital status
2. Date and location of death
3. Cause of death and duration of illness
4. Name of the individual who informed authorities of the death and (in some cases) their relationship to deceased
Further details relating to burial etc. may appear in newspaper death notices in the days following the death. These notices often list names of other family members. If the deceased held property, a follow-up search for a Will may worthwhile.
